On the face of it

Saturday night found us at the Glossa-Loutraki Business Association annual dinner-dance hosted by Kostas at his grill shop. We were the only non-Greeks in attendance and were therefore shown to the single non-raucous table. Had other non-Greeks been present no doubt we would have sat with them and misbehaved just like everyone else. At the non-raucous table were fine upstanding pillars of the community such as the couple who own the posh restaurant, the couple who own the pharmacy, the couple who own the large supermarket and the couple who run the post office.

Live music stifled any opportunity for us to converse with our table-fellows so instead we people-watched.

At the other end of the island a dispute has begun over the islanders in the Eastern Aegean. Should they or should they not be assisting refugees when there is hardship in Athens? You will no doubt be relieved to hear that it is Greek islanders who believe that support should be given to refugees and it is Daily-Mail reading British ex-pats who believe that support should not be given.

I wondered what would happen if these two lads, waiting at tables, were ever in need of rescue.
