Smiles All Around

Having Bryce at our house for several lovely hours was reviving for dear old Music and for me. He is six now, and it doesn't take much to bring on a smile. I made lunch, which meant crackers and cheese, apple slices and peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, hummus and chips, tiny seedless oranges. Juice for him, and hot lemon ginger tea for me. Later there were chocolate covered dried blueberries. Plenty of variety for the child in both of us.

After lunch, we got out the blocks and the collection of small plastic dogs (all breeds), and we built a house complete with dog yard. Many adventures took place, including the dog owner taking a bath with a scorpion. How the plastic scorpion got in with the dogs I have no idea. Bryce thought it was hilarious. I wasn't exactly laughing.

Then Bryce found a book in the toy box about a Lemur who was fearful about pretty much everything, until a cheerful, no nonsense aunt climbed into his doorless, windowless, roofless house and helped him overcome his fears. A pretty good book: Something Might Happen by Helen Lester. We read this snuggled on the couch. After that, we were more than ready for a walk with Music and Pearl. Pearl kept going off into the bushes, but Music stayed close to Bryce. Such a happy old dog... Look at that smile.
