Love in Soweto

We have had an amazing day looking around Soweto. We had booked onto a cycle tour of this area run by locals who live there.  Our guide, Pule, took us round lots of areas and even into a couple of schools plus the house where his mother lives (along with several other family members who have shacks in the yard).  Despite extreme poverty within the township there are also lots of examples of love and care with a strong community spirit very evident.

My blip today is of Pule's mother with her 3 year old grandson- the whole family gathered and wanted pictures taken too!  We ended up with visiting the old Soweto Cooling Towers which were going to be knocked down but an enterprising local had an idea of turning them into a site for adventures like bungee jumping!  He managed to get finance for it and it's now big business.  No - I did NOT even consider the bungee jumping!! I did, though, go up to the top (in a lift) for the view - these towers are BIG!!!!! Extra photo attached.
