Nicky and her Nikon

The British Wildlife Centre, Surrey

Today I went on a Nikon Training day at the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey. The centre was closed to the public today and we had the undivided attention of the keeper and the advice from the Nikon training manager. Unfortunately it was tipping down with rain in the morning so we decided to stay dry and the keeper brought us the sweetest little harvest mouse to photograph indoors - see extra photo - and then some owls.

By then it was lunchtime, so after a quick lunch of tea and sandwiches we went outside as by now the rain had stopped. We saw red squirrels - see extra photo - which were very fast moving and tricky to photograph. Then on to the fox, who was very curious and quite beautiful. They have pine martens, stoat, weasels, polecats, badgers, deer and otters as can be seen here.

We also visited the Scottish Wild Cat enclosure, and even though they look like a harmless tabby cat - see extra photo - they are quite fierce and apparently can bring down a deer. Sadly they are almost extinct now but many centres like this one has a breeding program and other centres have had success in keeping the species going.

It was a brilliant day out, and I took so many photos so it was difficult to choose which one to blip. I am now rushing out to a dinner so I have quickly chosen a few photos to upload.
