So near and yet so far...

Dear Diary,

Gaylord figured out how to climb up the snow shovel handle on the back porch to try and get to the suet feeder hanging just out of paw's reach.  Frustrating for him!  This weather is frustrating for me too!

Snow, about  3 inches last night, has turned to an icy rain.  It is a real mess out there and when I went out to shovel it was as heavy as cement.  My poor back!  Spring seems just out of reach.  They say it may be in the 60'sF next week!  But we have to deal with the now and it isn't pretty.

March can be a cruel month.  Spring-like sun and warmth one day and a snow storm the next.  Frost heaves in the roads make driving a very bumpy affair and dirt roads can become thick with mud.  But we are so near!  I can smell spring!  The little buds on the trees are swelling.  It is coming.  We just have to get through this "in between time".  Along with Dickens, I have great expectations!

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens (1812–1870), Great Expectations
