The Gasman Cometh

The duo Flanders & Swann ( very much a vintage duo, as I found when I googled them a moment ago ) had a well known performance piece called "The Gasman Cometh" which was recorded in 1964.

I thought of it this morning when walking in to the Parliament. This picture is almost exactly where my blip on the 2nd of December - three months ago - was taken.

Those very prolonged road and pavement works eventually finished several weeks late but since then a number of small sections have remained barricaded off with holes in the paving showing.

This week it has all been openend up and the pipes exposed again, with a sign saying it is "urgent" gas work but I have seen nobody at it since Monday.

No wonder people get angry at local councils and annoyed at the waste for which they are responsible. In this case new pipes and new paving slabs have been smashed and will, presumably have to be replaced.

Plus the many users of this busy junction continue to have to treat it as an obstacle course.
