Early Sun

John's house in the early morning sun this morning. The sun was soon replaced by towering hail squalls. The tower of the South Foreland windmill - without sails - can be seen to the right of the chimney across the valley.

The local story goes that Goebbels was so confident of a victorious invasion of the UK in 1940 that he ordered the Luftwaffe to not damage the windmill and its adjoining house. Later it was supposed to have been stuffed full of sophisticated radar and other technology by the British forces.

Further along towards Dover one of the not very sophisticated concrete 'listening ears' used to detect incoming bombers has been excavated by the National Trust.
