Mrs Mallard

Basking in the late afternoon sun on the Cascade water at Leeds Castle today was Mrs Mallard the Duck. The Cascade is one of my favourite spots on the Estate where the light reflecting on the water coupled with the tranquility of the Woodland makes for a serene haven.

Apparently the Cascade was a favourite place on the estate for Lady Baillie the last private owner who owned the Castle from 1926-1974. Lady B used to sit by the duckery with the Castle in the distance and such was her affection for the Cascade that her ashes were scattered there.

This evening I watched the new documentary on Country Life magazine featuring Editor-in-Chief Clive Aslet. I met him on my first event at the Castle in March 2014 promoting his book on Exuberant Country Houses.

It was an interesting documentary this evening about a publication that has supported the country for 120 years. It was wonderfully directed by Jane Treays whose previous work includes Inside Claridges. Looking forward to the next episode already when I can take a glimpse into being a lady of the manor!
