The coming of the end?

Almost two years ago I blipped this building, and included some details about its history.

It has remained a background part of our local environment, and is well used by those with limited income and no better place to stay. This evening I saw the For Sale notice, which boldly states that it is for sale for the first time in 20 years. I guess the sellers don't wish to draw attention to the fact that this is by Auckland standards an old building, having been built by the Roman Catholic Church in about a year, opening in 1922. It was in continuous use until the lat 1980s, initially as a convent, then for students boarding and lastly by the adjacent primary school. Twenty years ago it was bought and has been low cost accommodation. It is likely to make way for an apartment block, where accommodation will be well beyond the reach of those who currently reside here.

Great North Road.
