Wanaka from Mt Iron

Today we have left Queenstown and driven via Kawarau Gorge to Cromwell and then on to Wanaka where we are staying for two nights. I spotted more vineyards/wineries with interesting names en route again today, my favourite being The Lazy Dog Vineyard. Last night we had the most delicious Blue Cod Fish ''n' Chips at Finz on the waterfront in Queenstown and I had a glass of Peregrine Saddleback Pinot Gris with them - today we passed the vineyard again! More interesting creeks too: Sheepskin Creek and Gentle Annie Creek near the Roaring Meg Power Station, she must have been the quieter sister!
The landscape between Cromwell and Luggate, the Pisa Range of mountains, had a ribbon of low cloud running along its length and was decorated with vineyards, some looking like the hills had Mohican haircuts!
We arrived quite early in Wanaka which is yet another town in a stunning location. So we drove back out to their famous hill, a roche moutonee called Mt Iron and did the loop walk up and around it. The views were tremendous across the town to Lake Wanaka and the mountains beyond, the Harris range I think. We then booked in to the campsite and walked back into the town along the lakeside to find a place to eat lunch. So a reasonably lazy day today. The woman in the I Site says the weather will break tomorrow so we have picked out a bike ride along the lake to Waterfall Creek and then on to Glendhu Bay.
