41st Anniversary Selfie!

in Wensleydale.

We are having a two day break in the Yorkshire Dales to celebrate our anniversary.

We travelled up through Wharfedale stopping in Buckden for coffee and then on into Wensleydale. Here we are at the Lower falls at Aysgarth on the River Ure.
I don't often post pictures with us on it but it seemed appropriate today. We went to all the levels of the falls, Upper, Middle and Lower and also visited the lovely St Andrews church just above the Upper falls. If any of this looks familiar it could be because it was the setting for filming Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. The place where he first met Little John.

After lunch we headed to Castle Bolton, or Bolton Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was held for 6 months. There was more intact than I expected in cluding the room that had been her bed chamber. She came with 51 staff despite the fact that she was on her way to her death.

On arrival there were lots of children in costume participating in archery and making lots of noise! We explored the castle and gardens and saw a Bird of Prey display. They also have wild boar who were having a lovely time, literally as happy as 'pigs in muck'!

We are now in our hotel for the night, The Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton and being treated like royalty. We are having free nibbles in the bar and our room has complimentary treats and a bottle of Black Sheep beer as we are in the Black Sheep room. You can guess who chose that! There was a card, balloon and a little gift waiting for us too.

Looking forward to dinner and another day to come tomorrow.

( No extras as wifi is a bit slow so I will add a Flickr link later)
