All That Remains

It was our daughter's birthday - so we went down to visit her, but as she had been working overnight she spent a good portion of the day asleep!

We took the opportunity for a walk (with our collection of dogs) around the local 'country park'  - which is on the site of the former Barnburgh Colliery. All that remains of the mine are a few concrete pillars marking where the pit shafts were  and this little 'monument' of a small pit wheel on a stone mount.

There used to be a little memorial plaque on the other side of the stone, but it has been 'removed', presumably by vandals.

We did all go out later for a cake and cup of tea, which was very nice.
