Brief encounter

Today's the day ........................... to be on duty

It was very busy today in the Carnforth Station Heritage Centre  where I am a volunteer.

It was probably a combination of the fact that it's a wet Bank Holiday Saturday - and entry to the centre is free.  So for absolutely no cost at all, our visitors can learn all about how Carnforth Station was once an important hub in the railway network.  There are pictures of the locomotives that used to be a common sight whistling through - and interesting artefacts from the days of steam.

You can also learn about the filming of David Lean's 'Brief  Encounter'  which took place at Carnforth Station in 1945.  In fact, if you have no other plans, you can sit in our little in-house cinema (in a proper cinema seat that came from the old Carnforth Picture House) and watch the entire film from start to finish.

Over the past year, I've watched it on and off dozens of times - and it never fails to enthrall me..........................
