Icing sugar fungus, Beauveria bassiana,

I had read about this disease that insects can get and today Pat found an example of it. She saw the white and straight on it looked like a grinning face but side on it was this cicada that had succumbed to the disease.
The spores drop to the ground and insects can pick it up after warm rain or in autumn. It attacks their exoskeleton and renders them useless eventually.
Not a nice way to go but interesting to see.

It was very dark amongst the trees so all my shots were a bit noisy. Have added the fungi called Sociable inkcap, Coprinellus disseminatus. Love the names these fungi have.
