Mono Monday 115 Fool

Fool
noun
1. a person who acts unwisely or imprudently; a silly person

2. historical
a jester or clown, especially one retained in a royal or noble household

My image ( taken from a playing card - I had nothing else to hand) is of the latter
Shakespeare borrowed from this tradition  and created  a number of fools : Touchstone in  "As You Like It,",   Feste in "Twelfth Night," and (the) fool in "King Lear," being amongst the best known. Their purpose was complex : Shakespeare's fools often speak the truth to other characters and also to the audience :
'That, of course, is the great secret of the successful fool – that he is no fool at all.'  Isaac Asimov

Many thanks to Davidc for hosting this month and kicking off with such a challenging theme.  Also my apologies for posting late, but as always my photo was taken 'on the day'.
