A dreich dreich day. After work I did whistle into Waitrose to pick up a click'n'collect kitchen bin, and then stopped at Tesco to pick a click'n'collect microwave. All true. Then, having dropped them off, I made it along to the boat club meeting in time to clamber aboard the boat and have a guddle around the engine, and true enough, as suggested by MrB.Goat, the wires to the stop solenoid had been pulled out their little mini-jacks when I undid something.
