Things are not always as they seem

I blipped part of one of the doorways to St Peter Mancroft church when I was last in the City centre. Today as I passed the same door I turned and went inside.

The great East Window is largely filled with medieval stained glass. There are 49 panels in all. Impressive when viewed as a whole but impossible to show you all the detail. When you get closer you realise that some panels are just a jumble of colourful fragments, while others tell biblical stories. Lucky so much has survived this long. Most of the glass was blown out by an explosion during civil unrest while post Reformation much of the stained glass was destroyed and replaced with plain glass.
