Aberlady Nature Reserve, East Lothian

This inlet on the Firth of Forth at Aberlady Bay used to be the Port of Haddington.  Ships of 60-70 tons were able to dock in the harbour.  The port lost out to Leith in mid 19th century, and is now completely silted up. Remains of dock structures can still be seen at low tide if you know what to look for.  It is now home to a variety of seabirds, and in the winter hosts thousands of geese who fly out at dawn and return at dusk in great squadrons.
