Memento

I watched memento on film four tonight as part of their Christopher Nolan season. I'd watched parts of it before but never had the energy to get the whole way through. The complicated sequence of the film requires serious stamina and concentration. But all the effort is well worth it!

The convoluted plot is fairly exhausting (the central character suffers from short term memory loss) as the story is told in short segments of action that run backwards from the present to past. These snippets are then interchanged with a continuous story line in black and white (presumably to make it slightly less confusing..ha).

But unlike many films with equally ambitious plots, there are no holes or loose ends. Every question is answered in the most clever and unpredictable of ways. And without giving away too much, the twist at the end is great too- shocking but not to the extent that it unravels the previous plot line.

So if your a fan of films like Prime Suspect or feeling in need of a mental workout its a great one to watch.

*Apologies for the terrible picture..I was so engrossed in keeping up I didn't remember to take it until the last 5 seconds!
