Craiglockhart Pond

Another fabulous place for a little collie to go splish, splash sploshing!

I’ve had my walks at strange times today because Ann has been very busy re the big Edinburgh flat refurbishment.  My morning walk was at my normal time but my afternoon walk was in the morning?!  How strange is that?  I went up Craiglockhart Hill and then I went for a splish, splash, splosh in Craiglockhart Pond.  And what a beautiful day it’s been, here in sunny Edinburgh.

……………And now I’ve just had an extra little walk because Ann has been out all afternoon and I’ve had to stay home alone.

Update re the 'big Edinburgh flat refurbishment…………..

We are using BLIP as a diary of events so please stop reading now if you’re only interested in what a gorgeous little collie gets up to.

Contractor No. 2 came round first thing this morning with his itemised quote.  It’s pretty much the same as Contractor No. 1’s which is almost double our original budget.  Grrr

Anyway Ann’s decided that she loves Contractor No. 2.  Not as much as ‘very lovely architect’ because he’s not as good looking. Lol!  Decided to go with this quote because to be honest, we could spend the rest of our lives getting quotes in and the flat has been empty for two and a half months now.  If ‘Cowboy Builders’ hadn’t been such cowboys the work should have been nearing completion by now.

Contractor No. 2 has said the work will take about 6 weeks.  But…………….. the good thing is; they can start immediately.  Yay! Apparently they never work on more than two projects at a time and the job they were supposed to be starting on this week, can be put back 2/3 weeks because the clients haven’t yet cleared the house of all the furniture.  And Contractor No. 2 is a very considerate person because he said we needed to let our neighbours know that a refurb was happening as the noise would resound around the building.  Well, we’d thought about that but non of the other quoters seemed to think it would be too much of a problem.  ‘Cowboy builders’ even said it would only take a couple of days to knock down the wall between the living room/kitchen and after that there wouldn’t be any noise.  Duh???

Ann doesn’t know any of her neighbours but is going to put a notice on the communal notice board saying that she is refurbing the flat and there could be noise between the hours of 9am and 4pm for 6 weeks.  Contractor No. 2 says his guys usually start at 8am but they won’t do anything noisy until 9am.  Sooooo, soooo impressed with how he has laid everything out.

Sooooooo………….. Contractor No. 2 is coming round at 8.15am tomorrow to start taking away all the old furniture that the 'Bethany Store' wouldn’t take due to H&S reasons??  That could definitely be another RANT!  The Bethany Store gives stuff to homeless people but will not take any painted items due to not knowing what kind of paint has been used.  It could be toxic apparently?????  Talk about a ‘nanny state’???!!!

Another good thing is………………. Ann met with the kitchen designer this afternoon and he’s designed her a very lovely kitchen.  Also looked at flooring and doors, which weren’t so lovely, so will have to go elsewhere for those.  Also have to go looking for tiles and splash backs and bathroom stuff.

There’s soooooo much in Ann’s head at the moment that it feels like it’s going to explode!!!

Not happy that this project is going to end up costing double our original budget(?!)  But very, very, very, very, happy that we seem to have found someone we can trust.
