Au Revoir

While I  consider the newly opened airport style reception area at the Southampton General Hospital an immense improvement over the entrance as it was, I sincerely hope that today will be my last visit to it for a while.
True it has been open for only a few days and the new shopping mall which is incorporated as part of the spacious reception area provides a bright introduction to the University Hospital Trust’s vast  medical specialisation, treatment and research facilities.
But it’s still a hospital, and that’s why I keep my fingers crossed that I won’t need to cross this entrance area for some little while. My wife having unfortunately (or fortunately perhaps?) been a patient for nine days, here means that I will be delighted not to have to visit for a while, or longer.
After all, while the hospital may be critical to the path of recovery from illness, accident or emergency, the day that you are told you can go home should be joyous.

So well done to the Hospital Trust for completion of this particular investment. I just wish and hope not to have to pass this way again.
