On the La Garenne Trail near Herbinghen (nearly)

Went on a cheap day trip to France today and had the most marvellous of days; certainly better than the last time I went to France with Chris and De'Shaun almost a year ago. This time the sea was calm and a bit of sunshine, with lush vegetation and most of all silence apart from the singing of the birds. So different from the noisy environment in Kent, so much less densely populated and therefore, so much more space.

The trip paid for itself as we had a voucher for 6 bottles of wine and of course we managed to stuff a few more cases in as a result of visiting the hypermarket.

We drove about 30 minutes south east of Calais into a region known as La Trois Pays which is lovely, We were meant to follow the La Garenne Trail but although we found the start of the trail the map we had made it difficult to keep on the route. We found a lovely spot for a picnic before beginning the walk, enjoying bread, cheese, ham and tomato together with a glass or two of vin rouge at 1.83 euros a bottle.

Despite the image created by this shot, the weather remained kind throughout the day. We enjoyed a nice meal at La Detroit in Calais, but had to forego the desert in order to catch the ferry home. Shame.

Arrived home to find the boiler had gone out again.....
