Pig in a Mist

Dear Diary,

I've heard of "pigs in a blanket", served at cocktail parties, but this is a pig in a mist!  Our mornings are still very chilly, 35F today, and when the morning sun hit the damp roof of the potting shed this lovely mist appeared. The grass and stone walls are steaming too.  Things are warming up in the day though and the dreaded black flies are abating, thankfully.  Yesterday was my first day not swathed in netting!

My new garden helper was here for 6 hours yesterday and did a great job.  The studio garden is planted and three clumps of ornamental grass are in the meditation garden.  I'll have to get more plants next week and get them in so that the mulch can go down.  Still a lot to do before the garden tour but I am making good progress.

These chilly mornings, and the freak snowstorm we had on the 28th of April, reminded me that this year is the 200th anniversary in New England of the "Year without a Summer".  Many people starved and it started a westward exodus of farmers.  Now, we seem to have the opposite problem...summer begins much earlier and lasts longer.  The difference is, in 1816 it was part of a natural phenomenon, now we humans are causing the weather change.  The question is, will we wake up in time to do something about it?
