Lindisfarne (Holy Island) - 18th May Backblip

A drive up to Lindisfarne which can only be reached by a three mile causeway when the tide is out.  Today was between 11 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.  We walked out to the castle where Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll spent some time helping Edward Hudson the owner of "Country Life" Magazine turn it into a holiday home.  It's remarkable cosy inside and is at present being renovated by the National Trust.

I was disappointed with the island, which has approximately 160 residents, due to the hotchpotch nature of the buildings, some old and some newish properties, which don't fit into the character of the place.  On the bright side I did hand feed some sparrows.

The boatsheds were quite amusing, see extra.

Dinner was at The Craster Arms followed by their weekly quiz.  We came second and won £15.
