Worcester

Narrowboat Trip - Day 1

Today we started our adventure on the canal!  Dolly and I joined our friend Rhod and headed off to Worcester to pick up a Narrowboat for a 5-day/4 night trip. We will do what is called 'The Droitwich Ring' - a circular route along the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, the River Severn, and the newly opened and restored Droitwich Canal.

Since we didn't pick up the boat until mid afternoon, we only cruised a short distance, going through 2 locks (bottom right) and mooring for the night just before joining the River Severn (bottom left, middle boat).  After dinner we went for a walk around the neighbourhood.  This area of Worcester is full of old warehouses and factories being restored and turned into swanky apartments and office buildings. There are also plenty of new apartments going up. We also walked around the outside of Worcester Cathedral. (See extra photo)  The whole area is very attractive and full of history, especially important in regards to the English Civil War. The last battle of the Civil War was fought just near where the pictured lock now stands.
