The Lozarithm Lens

The Old Forge (Monday 30th May 2016)

I always enjoy seeing these two trees come into leaf each spring, but this year they were hidden from view by fast-growing self-seeded buddleias and sycamores that had sprung up in front of them.

Luckily I was able to intercept a firm of tree surgeons that were doing some work on my neighbours' patch at the top of the driveway and ask for a quote for giving a number of my trees a haircut while they were there, and the work was done bit by bit over the next few days. This restored the view from my opened upstairs study window from which this was taken (a blurry window handle can just be made out bottom right).

Both these trees were bought as young saplings in the mid-nineties from Bowood Garden Centre. This was long before I had a season ticket for Bowood and I can't now remember whereabouts it was situated in their grounds, but I was a regular customer there.

One is a Cotinus (Royal Purple)(Cotinus coggygria) and the other is a variegated Sycamore Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus Brilliantissima), and I have found specimens of both in Bowood's grounds.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Marianne Faithfull - Rosie Rosie (recorded 1966)
Continuing the Kinks theme, this Ray Davies song, originally entitled Rosie Won't You Come On Home, was on the 1966 Kinks album Face To Face. Marianne Faithfull recorded the song that same year with a very different arrangement and a beautiful score by Mike Leander, her producer. It was intended for her album Loveinamist, but was left off the album and wasn't released until it became a bonus track on a CD re-issue of that album in 1988. It is included on the 2016 Ace compilation of mainly Ray Davies compositions, Kinked!
