Thoughts of a Mummy

Off to see the Queen

A fabulous day in the Big Smoke with Daddy, Calv and kiddies.

We set off this morning and caught the train to London. Obviously, as any parent does, we told the kiddies that we were going to London to meet the Queen!

Our first trip was to the Science Museum, where I bumped into fellow twin Mummy, Lucy and her boys (of all the places to bump into one another, when we actually live in the same county!).

The kiddies all loved the different interactive displays in the Museum. I found out that I'm not the only one scared of heights. I now know that my bro is afraid of heights just as much as me - yay! Neither one of us wanted to look over the metal railings in the centre of the building to gaze at the three floors below us, and neither of us were happy that the kiddies were confidently climbing the railings to see down. On the second floor was a suspended glass bridge across the centre void. I chose to wait until the walk way was clear and just quickly walk across, my nephew however had other plans for me and decided to stop me in my tracks halfway. It's a blumin good job I love him so much!!

P was very happy to walk around with Grandad, listening and talking to him about everything around her. She was in absolute awe and it was lovely to see her like this.

We then sat and had lunch on the benches outside the museum, followed by a stroll to see Buckingham Palace. As we crossed Green Park we could see the Queen's flag flying high and the kiddies happily told us the Queen was home.

When we got to Buckingham Palace, the Police were stopping us from walking across the front of the Palace. We waited to find out what was happening and saw a Police escort, to then release that behind the escort was the Queen and Prince Phillip in their Range Rover. It was absolutely amazing! We were all so excited to actually see The Queen!!

Moments later, after all of the excitement had passed and footpaths had been reopened, we realised that we had lost Calv & Dude. Not to worry though, we made a rule with the kiddies earlier on that if we couldn't find each other, we had agreed a keyword to shout and we'd find each other. Yep, that's right, we were the one's shouting "Bogey" outside of the Palace. Sure enough, we found each other. Calv heard us shouting and we heard him too!

We then took the tube across to Oxford Circus to take the kiddies to Hamley's. The kiddies were so well behaved. When we got inside the shop, we explained to the kiddies that we wouldn't be buying anything today, but they could "circle, lock in and remember" anything and everything they would like to have when we come next time. We watched P wandering round circling lots of toys with excitement and big smiles.

We then caught the very busy tube back to Euston and then the train home. Aj got a little upset as we walked to our platform.......

Aj "Mummy, where are we going now?"
"

We're off home now darling
"but we haven't been to the Queen's house"
Yes we did and we saw her too
"but we didn't go in"
No sweetie, we're not allowed..
"yes we can Mummy, she was at home now, we can go round"
Sorry Darling, but we can't go in, we weren't invited, we have to be asked by the Queen to go in her house and she hasn't asked us to go in, maybe another day.

Bless her little cotton ones :) I hadn't thought about the impact of what we told the kiddies earlier on today, would have on little Aj's mind.

The kiddies were all so very well behaved, it really was a pleasure to watch them all enjoying themselves and spending time together.
