Cathedral Cavern

A great trip today down to Little Langdale to see Little Langdale Tarn, the old Slater's bridge, and the fabulous Cathedral Cavern.  This splendid 40 feet high chamber is the main cave in a series of interlinked man made caves which produced green slate.

I was very pleased to return here after my last visit some 10 years ago.  A little more photographic experience, a better camera, and modern HDR software (in this case Nik HDR Efex Pro) have produced a very satisfactory shot which captures the detail within the dark cave while still retaining the detail of the sunlit trees and blue sky seen through the opening at the top.  This was a fairly hurried edit, and I should be able to improve it with a little more care, including better removal of the flare spots.

Another excellent day.
