Best Friends in and out of the water

The local pool closes for the season tomorrow. It really is such a shame that the pool is shuttered through months of warm weather. But city budgets only go so far.

This pool is great fun. I think back to the rather upscale Katonah town pool in suburban NY and realize that really the atmosphere and people are just the same here, just different colors and for many, a lower income bracket. At one corner there was a baby swim lesson. In another corner there were older kids learning their strokes. Boys dominated the slide, but occasionally some girls joined in the fun. There were games of Marco polo and basketball. And there were some middle aged adults (surely I am not one of those) floating on noodles giving the teenagers with the basketball the evil eye. And, I cannot forget the lifeguards. It seemed that off duty lifeguards were at great risk of being pushed in to the pool.

All in all, it was bliss. Eventually I dragged Bob out of the pool for the short bike ride home. He was exhausted, as he had 7 hours of camp followed by an hour of play, and 2 hours at the pool. I was pretty wiped out, but happy, too.
