Summer?

The first day of summer (meteorologically) saw a whole team of us heading south to survey for Roman snails in a quarry. The weather was dire - really cold and damp with a brisk northerly wind. The hills of Surrey were swathed in cloud more reminiscent of the Highlands of Scotland, and at one point the heavens opened. Although it was uncomfortable for us, it was perfect weather for the snails! Because of the weather I hadn't taken my camera but used my phone to take a quick shot of this common spotted- orchid during one of the drier interludes. The highlight of the day was arriving home to a wonderful meal of spaghetti Bolognese followed by a salted caramel chocolate tart, prepared by Lizzy and Ben.
