Toronto Mayor John Tory supporting Heart&Stroke

Up at 4 am for a 6 am rainy start to our 75 km fundraiser bike ride. Our weather has been stellar for weeks, except for a system that moved through around the time we were riding. Luckily it stopped raining half way through, the roads remained wet and we had to be very careful not to slip on our skinny tires. There were over 20,000 participants and 800 volunteers raising over $7 million. I was riding for my mother, grandmother and childhood friend Ian (who sadly passed away suddenly in his early 20's - i rode with a big button with his photo on it that his mother gave me). It was an emotional ride as everyone there was riding for someone near and dear to them. It was a cool course as they closed down 2 very major routes in Toronto, the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Express, very cool riding on roads that do not allow anything but cars. We met the Mayor of Toronto, John Tory, he was out supporting the athletes. Unfortunately my cellphone was a bit wet, hence my fuzzy blip photo. It was a great day, there were 6 of my friends there. My sweetie starts his 20 hrs flying home from Sydney, Australia and is home later tomorrow. He has just come through a massive and scary storm dubbed 'Stormagedon' where much beach line was lost, areas evacuated, businesses and homes underwater. He says it dawned a beautiful sunny morning for them today, now the cleanup starts. Our son lives a 3 minute walk to the beach that was very badly hit. Thankfully everyone seems to be ok.
