Les Temps de Cerises

We were up bright and early this morning and on the train under the sea by 7.50am.
Check-in went so smoothly we didn't even have time to go in and get a cup of tea for the journey. A fact that I moaned about most of the way under the sea!!
We kept our spirits up with pains au chocolat and brioche.
From Calais we drove down to Honfleur stopping a couple of times en route. First of all at an aire for a toilet break for Miss L. She was treated to the sight of some big hairy French buttocks (and worse!!) as we opened the door to the ladies and found a big hairy French man in there.
Miss L thought it was funniest thing ever!!
Next we stopped at a cafe for coffee and I got to use my new language skills: deux cappuccinos s'il vous plaît. A triumph!!!
We met my mum and dad in a murky, freezing Honfleur. I was Miss E's age the last time I was there with them and it was lovely to all be there together.
The Little Misses went on the carousel by the harbour - taking the money and proudly paying the woman all by themselves.
Then we had a wander round the harbour and stopping for a late lunch at one of the restaurants by the water. Salad, steak-frites, moules, pizza, tarte tatin, fromage, espresso..... Delicious!!
Despite the murky freezingness it was lovely to walk around the town - so many lovely buildings and shops, little alleys, courtyards, gates and cobbled streets. Beautiful!
We ended up in my mum and dad's camper drinking hot chocolate to warm up before heading to our gite a little bit further down the coast.
We stopped on the way and Miss E had her first experience of a squat toilet! At least she didn't have to contend with any hairy buttocks while she was in there!!
The gite is fabulous! It looked nice in the pictures but it's sooooooooo lovely in real life! (See extras)
We stuffed our faces with bread and cheese, drank beer, ignored the children going loopy in their attic bedroom and watched the last two Twilight films.
What a great first day to our holiday!
