Orkney day 9: Haar at Deerness

Sadly we dropped TJ off at Kirkwall International, what a really great week, but she was off to Edinburgh and we were off to Deerness. Almost immediately the haar descended but we continued undeterred. First stop The Gloup - a huge chasm, just discernible in the mists. We decided to risk the cliff walk including visiting the Brough - a small headland only accessible by these very tiny, steep steps cut into sheer rock - can you spot the rope! We went cautiously .The headland contained the remains of a tiny chapel and once there had been a small settlement up there too. We continued in the mists, the chatter and chirruping of many birds around us. Lovely to here the peewit again and all very atmospheric.

On our way home we had to visit Tesco. What a horrible culture shock. I went a bit peculiar.

We decided to visit the Stones later on in the evening to see if they looked even more mysterious and enigmatic in the mist. They did.
