Secretive orchid

This is the first Bird's-nest Orchid to show at the nature reserve for about 5 years. Despite checking all the places where it used to grow reasonably reliably, the last few years have been disappointing. Indeed, many of those places now seem unsuitable, with more ground vegetation than used to be there, even though there's been no change to the tree canopy. My theory is that we are seeing soil enrichment, even in the depths of the beech woods, from atmospheric nitrogen deposits. This plant has turned up in a new place, on a heavily-trampled path, and has already been damaged! As (amazingly) this is an orchid that can set seed underground, I recommend it stays there for a few years more in the hope of improving conditions!
