Timeless traditions: Baku day two

Old and new traditions:  carpet sellers in Baku, a source of commerce and wealth since ancient days - carpet making goes back to the 4th-3rd millennium BC in Azerbaijan (the Azeri carpet was declared a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 1910).

In the backdrop, the more contemporary Flame Towers of Baku - the fire "symbolizes energy and eternity", and also goes back to the ancient worship of this element - the name "Azerbaijan" is Persian and apparently means "protect(or) of fire".  The country is also the origin (or one of the origins) of Zoroastrianism with its deep emphasis on fire.

Also symbolic is the extra blip posted to mark the Grand Prix on Sunday.  I liked the way they formed the chequered flag over the towers.  However, the  busy day - and bright hot hard flat sunlight all day - did not allow many blip opportunities.
