Down the Road

14.1C with light rain in the morning. Heavier rain in the afternoon. Moderate SE/SSE breeze.

Another morning with Maeve the Deerhound holding her back right leg off the floor when she got up. By the time I got ready to take her out she was touching the paw to the floor, and by the time we came back from our walk she was trotting along the road. It would seem that light exercise does it no harm, and most probably some good. She is not distressed. She ate and had a drink when she got home too so we are trying not to overreact.

Grocery shopping over by mid morning. We did leave Maeve at home, as we had done last Sunday.

We went the ten miles or so South to Southend then followed the road round past Dunaverty beach to Carskey Bay. We were hoping the light rain would go off or at least not be too bad for us to have a walk. When we got to the car park it was raining, but we went for a wander along the beach anyway. We had jackets and hats and luckily I had Maeve's coat in the car so she was driest of the three of us. She had no problems wandering along the beach. The sea was choppy and quite grey, and the waves breaking on the shore were larger and noisier than we have seen at this beach so far.

Gannets. Not diving.
Oystercatchers.
Cormorants.
Herring Gulls.
Ringed Plovers ... which we enjoy watching scampering up and down the sand.
Common Gulls lined up on the shore at Keil catching whatever was in the seaweed.

A stop on the way home to buy free range eggs from a farm's roadside stand with an honesty jar, which they have sheltered under a tree at their road end.

Too wet for me to take a camera out of the car never mind out of its bag.
Instead, a look down the road in the rain. You can just make out Davaar island. We couldn't see it this morning, the cloud was so low. You need a head for heights to look out this window. I don't have one !

Chopped boiled eggs for Maeve at lunch time.
A quiet afternoon at home. F1 on the telly.
