Miss L and the Coconut Man

Apparently there is nothing my dad doesn't know about coconuts!!
It was the fete at Miss E's school today. It was fabulous!! A climbing wall, a tombola, fantastic cake stalls, bric-a-brac, books, plants, Morris Dancers, a brass band, fairground rides, a coconut shy and lots more!
We had a fantastic time!
Miss E was involved in a dance display and got a bit upset this morning saying she didn't want to do it. I gently told her she had to really!! But that when it was over she could spend her pocket money on whatever she wanted round the fete.
The first dance display was maypole dancing and I must admit I was a bit worried thinking that Miss E would be the one getting it all wrong, tripping up, tying herself in knots and generally fulfilling her worst nightmares!! Luckily she was doing Sicilian Circles which was really sweet - a cross between a Jane Austen ball and a hoedown at a barn dance. Lovely!
Once the dance was over Miss E put her leggings and trainers on and was much more relaxed!
There was a climbing wall manned by a couple of dishy young soldiers which Miss E loved. She insisted on doing the harness all by herself - telling the dishy young soldier that she "does rock climbing" and knows what she's doing! He was wonderfully patient with her! She did so well, getting up to the top of the wall in super quick time. I applauded and whooped a bit and was surprised that loads of other people were clapping too. I turned to check, assuming they were clapping the Morris Dancers, but it was Miss E they were applauding. Just brilliant. When she came down the dishy young soldier asked her if she was a professional - she was glowing with pride!!!
Mr K dragged me off before I could climb halfway up the wall, pretend to get stuck and have to be rescued by a dishy young soldier. Killjoy!!
We won our coconuts, my dad spent a fortune on the tombola - to win two bottles of Stella!!! - and then it was home for a lovely huge roast dinner.
We learnt more than I thought possible about coconuts and there was lots of laughter.
A lovely day.
