Sports Day

It was Miss E's sports day today. What a brilliant day!
There are three houses and all the children wore t-shirts in their house colours. It made it so much exciting watching races that Miss E wasn't involved in. All the parents cheered for their house as well as individual children.
In the morning we watched them doing long jump (see extras) and shot put (with a tennis ball) then there was an hour or so for a picnic lunch. Nana, Miss E and I put picnic blankets down under a tree and enjoyed a scrummy picnic with quiche, French bread and cheese, sausage rolls, chips, dips and strawberries. Very nice!!
In the afternoon it was to the track for the races. Miss E came second in the egg and spoon race which was brilliant. No mean feat as it was 100m!! And, as she pointed out, it was a moral victory as the girl who won was holding on to the egg with her thumb. Shocking behaviour!!!
Next there was a sprint - Miss E came third and I was a super proud Mummy. She hates the thought of not being good at running and in past sports days hasn't even tried  - rather then putting in any effort and having to deal with failure. I was so so proud to see her trying her best and coming third!!!! I may have whooped and cheered like a loon!!
There was an obstacle race, a potato race, a few middle distance races, and a relay. All brilliant commentated on by the science teacher over the PA. It was a lovely touch to introduce the children and say which house they were competing for.
There was a nail biting interval while all the points were totted up and the winner of the house cup was announced.
We were robbed is all I have to say on the matter!!
