MONO MONDAY - UNUSUAL ANGLE

I have cause to be extremely grateful to Son Number 1 for giving Mr. HCB this wonderful gift a few months ago.  I had a John Lewis voucher so we went to our nearest shop to see if we could buy some headphones so that Mr. HCB could listen to sport without having to inflict it on me - he is such a thoughtful man!

Unfortunately, the cheaper ones had all sold out - typical - but we decided to go and have a cup of coffee and discuss the possibility of buying the more expensive ones.  I had the idea of ringing Son Number 1 as he is an expert on gadgets of any kind.  What a good job we did because he told his Dad not to bother to buy headphones, as he had a pair that couldn’t be used with their TV - so without more ado, we drove over and collected them and you will see that these are not just any old headphones, but Sennheiser ones!

And what a boon they have been - I no longer have to listen to football or cricket commentaries and the only indication I have that Mr. HCB is watching sport is when his legs and arms start flailing around and he shouts!  I have to say that he has worn a groove in the carpet where his feet rest - or not, depending on how excited he gets!

These headphones sit next to the television in an upright position, just waiting for the next game - and at the moment, as we all know, there are quite a lot of football games to see and hear - and of course, we mustn’t forget cricket matches too, although I am not averse to listening to David Lloyd and his wonderful commentaries.

For an even more unusual angle, I remembered that one of our grandsons had done a jigsaw puzzle many years ago showing England’s win in the World Cup in 1966 so the headphones are resting on top of that puzzle.  Who knows, maybe England can win the European Championship 50 years on and I might even get excited about that!

Our daily life is filled with
     electronic pianos,
          ring tones,
the disembodied voice giving you
your bank balance over the telephone.
Even silence can be electronic,
     courtesy of sound-cancelling headphones.
