Abstract Kelpies

After Gitama's fraught day in Edinburgh at the start of the week I decided to take Friday off so we could wander around together to let her get a chance to see some of the things she really wanted to.

First stop was the Museum of Scotland. Gitama had fallen in love with the Lewis Chessmen the first time she saw them in one of the Historic Scotland shops and when I told her she could see the real thing here it bounced to the top of her list of things to do in Edinburgh. With a fair list of things to do it was to be a quick visit but as soon as we got in there were just too many distractions. The "Celts" exhibition put the brakes on the quick wander although the chessmen were the first and last place we went. In between was the exhibition and the Millennium Clock... oh, and cake and tea. The museum itself is a gorgeous building and I think she fell a little bit in love with the place. I've said it before, we're lucky to have this place in Edinburgh and I'll never tire of visiting.

Wandering back up to the Royal Mile we stopped off at St. Giles Cathedral before heading for lunch. We then headed down the road to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse... via every jewellery and art shop on the Mile for last minute gifts!

We were too late to go in but it was Mary Queen of Scot's bathhouse on  the perimeter of the palace that Gitama wanted to visit. She'd seen it on the tour bus earlier in the week and I think was thinking fantasy backdrop. While we were there she spotted Holyrood Abbey through the fence and we decided a return visit should be on the cards.

Back home and after a little dinner of slow cooked beef - don't talk to me about slow cookers - it was off to the Kelpies. Well, at around 11pm!

I'm not even going to try and compete with Gitama's gorgeous shot but I quite liked this knocked tripod shot in any case. Definitely a different take on the Kelpies anyway! A wee extra of the beautifully lit sculptures is included. Looks quite nice in mono I think! :-))
