The Olive Tree

I have always been attracted to Olive trees. Their twisted shapes and gnarled bark seem to reflect their antiquity, and there seems to be no such thing as a young Olive tree. This one seems the worse for wear; perhaps it has been struck by lightning at sometime and lost a limb. I like the way its curves echo those of the landscape beyond. Another striking feature of the Umbrian countryside is its strong greens, despite the baking heat.
