The Met Breuer

I asked C what she wanted to do and we ended up at the Met Breuer. A newly opened venue which has a exhibition entitled 'unfinished'. This is basically an excuse to display all those canvases which would otherwise languish in some storage room because the artist didn't get round to filling in the fiddly bits, or they lost interest, or they died.

Although we both agreed that the gem of the exhibition was the single Da Vinci drawing, the thing we spent most time in front of was Cy Twombly's series of six framed paintings.

They were described as being a 'walk in a forest', but we sat and saw our own dreams reflected in those pictures. They are six white frames filled with dark green, black, and white paint dripped and spattered almost Indiscriminately. Almost, but not quite. We saw under-sea caves filled with luminescent jelly-fish. Rain-washed windows highlighted by car headlights. Exploding galaxies and eggs broken on a marble wall.

They were wonderful.

After hot sandwiches and a wander round the shops we headed back to the apartment for a quiet evening.
