High-country lake.......

.....in the Waimakariri Basin, Lake Pearson (Moana Rua), tranquil and calm today, a real beauty.

We woke to grey cloud again......hubby and I decided to head inland for a day trip. We hadn't long left home when the sun was shining at Oxford and looking back along the Waimakariri River at the gorge the Canterbury Plains were covered in cloud. After travelling this stretch of road when Daughter A was home, we kind of new what to expect, still no snow. The mountains were bony and bare and it's mid-winter, most unusual.

I was rather hoping to see the Grebes on the lake but alas not today, only Australian Coots and mallards. I was also hoping to see the Kea at the Viaduct Corner just passed Arthurs Pass Village but again luck wasn't on my side. We popped into the information centre and it seems there are more Kea around during summer. By golly we could hear them, we were surrounded by their calls but no sightings.

An amble round Arthurs Pass Village was rather pleasant and a chance to get some Vitamin D, brisk and sunny at 4C.

Tomorrow it's supposed to rain......we need rain, lots of it!

Happy Thursday everyone :)
