All the fun of the fair

WOMAD - Day 2

Yesterday was a scorcher and it dawned warm and sunny again today. Perfect festival weather.

I had a packed musical schedule (see below) but also found time to meet up with Arachne again for a cuppa and a proper chat - we couldn't talk much yesterday as the music demanded our full attention! It was an absolute pleasure to talk to her and I hope to do so again before too long.

I also explored the wide variety of stalls, happenings and entertainments on site and took this picture of happy young festival-goers at the steam fair. I was too big a wuss to have a go on any of the rides myself!

Acts I saw today:

Raghu Dixit (India) - if Fairport Convention had been Indian microbiologists...
Patrick Wolf (UK) - national treasure in waiting?
Kimmo Pohjonen (Finland) - the accordion as performance art. Extraordinary!
Balkan Beat Box (USA/Israel) - gypsy electronica for the global village
Cornershop (UK) - because "everybody needs a bosom for a pillow"
Hot Water (South Africa) - crowdsurfing jive from the rainbow nation for the rainbow world. Dance-tastic!
Khaled (Algeria) - the king of rai with a thrillingly unexpected guest appearance from a previous blip subject of mine, Johnny Kalsi!
