Golden-ringed Dragonfly

The UK's largest dragon fly - Cordulegaster boltonii

I wandered back to the little nature pond today hoping to get a better shot of the Beautiful Demoiselle - but didn't see a glimpse. I left an indignant pooch tied to the gate (nesting birds) and wandered right round the pond and took a few reflection shots - but then as I was leaving (which involves a careful jump/wade over the beck) I saw a spot of colour on the ground and found this magnificent individual - easily 3 inches in length and quite unperturbed by me - so I grabbed several shots, some much closer than this and headed home.
And yes I checked several times before I deleted!
