Sgwarnog: In the Field

One of the challenges of pre-season friendlies is keeping track of who's on the pitch, what with anonymous A. Trialists on the team sheet and squad numbers not necessarily having been settled.  And this is even more so in the non-league semi-professional game where half the playing staff can change from one year to the next.

So it shouldn't have been a surprise to find two number sevens on the same side, although it could have been entertaining had one of them been booked.

Guiseley hosted Barnsley for the second season running, with Barnsley having elevated themselves to the Championship in the meantime and Guiseley maintaining National League status by the skin of their teeth.  Last year it was 0-0, but today we were treated with goals, albeit two Barnsley ones, making it 0-2 on the night.

Guiseley had a trialist in goal, and he offered plenty of skill, daring and entertainment. Enough to convince the crowd at least that he is, indeed, a keeper.
