Wide Angle Wednesday: Nature

We are lucky enough to live close to the cycle path that runs between Bath and Bristol.  Like many other cycle routes it is a former railway line that was closed as part of Dr Beaching's cuts in the 1960s.   For years it was forgotten about,  the brambles closed  in and mother nature gradually started to reclaim it.  

Fortunately Sustrans (the sustainable transport charity) were successful in their efforts to have the route opened as a shared use path (pedestrian and bicycle).  It was their first cycle path, and nowadays it is a very poplar commuter and leisure route.  The section between Saltford and Bath is probably the most beautiful part.  Lined by trees it travels above the River Avon's water meadows.

Dotted along its course are various seats and sculptures.  This particular curved bench is made from a large old tree trunk.  It is set slightly off the  path, in a little natural grove which makes it a peaceful little spot.  

The kissing gate leads to the water meadows by Kelston Lock, a busy-ish place at this time of year for those who are holidaying on narrow boats.

I took this one with the 16mm fisheye,  I've corrected the distortion with the hemi plug in.  I've decided to go with the mono version for my blip, although there is a colour version which I will upload to Flickr along with the other shots that I took on my wander about this evening in search of inspiration!
