Olympia

After a damp morning at the Berlin Wall Museum (extra showing the TV tower where we ate last night), I returned to the area of the Brandenburg Gate and was touched by the flowers left on the symbolic graves at the memorial to the 22,000 Russian soldiers who died taking Berlin. Then I went out to the architectural wonder that is the Olympic stadium. Somehow, in sport, the extreme symbolic nationalism this represents seems acceptable. Sobering to see Jesse Owens' name written into the stone.
