Scarce Fungus Weevil

It's a bit sticky, the weather that is.  I was going to remove some more of the ivy attached to the fence but by the time I'd bagged up yesterday's mess I wasn't in the mood.

Friends called round for coffee this morning and this alien flew in and landed on my arm.  At first I thought it was a bee and quickly brushed if off but on closer inspection it is a weevil of some sort, but I've not a clue what as I've never seen one before and I can't find it in my reference books.  After posting it on the British and European Insects website, it has been identified.

The extras are of a green woodpecker and another of it feeding its offspring.

My thoughts are very much with those caught up in the Nice atrocity.
