Une auberge

Breakfast on the terrace, still cool and the food delicious. Met a lovely family from Calgary. His second language was Ukrainian! That's the language offered at his school in Calgary! Here the official language may be French but everyone, at least in the tourist industry seems to speak English.

We decided to follow a walk in the guide book. It took us into various different parts of the town. So many quaint houses, many coloured. Some very modern buildings! But not that many. It's all up or down!

At one point we went down a very steep road : Sainte Genevieve and then some stairs to the lower town of business etc. Where we had a frappé each as it was getting hot. Back the other way and we were faced by a grand staircase! Thankfully we found a lift next to it! Further up lovely little streets with borders of orange lilies.

As we were passing the museum of contemporary art we decided to go in. We spent a good couple of hours there and then walked back to the old town via the Grande Allée another street lined with restaurants and bars! Mass in the basilica of Notre Dame. Wonderful organ!

We stopped to have a 'poutine' : a Quebec dish : chips with chunks of cheese covered in a brown sauce which is quite salty. Sounds so so but is very good. I had duck with mine Ro had beef with his! Back to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow-off to Montreal, but this time two nights in the centre!

I have chosen this Inn as my blip. It's not far from the Chateau Frontenac, shows the terraces where you can eat and the general conviviality! Street artists and happenings are very important here. We even spotted preparations for a wheelbarrow race!

Sorry, but I'm still not free to comment as I have to prepare our next stage!
